About me, Dr. Julia Reeve
Helping women overcome the fear and pain of intimacy — with understanding, science, and compassion.
Hello, I’m Dr. Julia Reeve — a gynaecologist, psychotherapist, and sexologist.
For over 30 years, I’ve helped women who experience fear, pain, or tightness that makes intimacy or penetration impossible — a condition known as primary vaginismus.
I know how isolating and confusing this can feel. Many of the women I’ve met spent years blaming themselves or feeling “broken,” even though vaginismus is a reflex — a fear response the body has learned to protect you.
The good news is: anything learned can also be unlearned.
My journey
I was born in England to a British father and German mother, grew up bilingual, and studied medicine at the University of Cologne. I went on to specialize in gynaecology and obstetrics, but I soon realised something important: many of my patients needed more than a medical explanation — they needed emotional understanding and psychological support too.
So I continued studying, earning postgraduate qualifications in psychotherapy, psychosomatics, family therapy, sexology, and even Traditional Chinese Medicine (Master’s degree, Technical University of Munich). This gave me the unique ability to see the whole person — body, mind, and emotions — not just the physical symptoms.
How my vaginismus method began
Over time, more and more women with vaginismus came to see me — often travelling long distances or even from abroad. In the beginning, I didn’t have all the answers. But through patient feedback, research, and experience, I gradually developed a method that worked — quickly and reliably.
A key insight came when I experienced flight phobia training myself. The same principle of gradual desensitization — safely retraining the brain to stop overreacting with fear — became central to my approach for vaginismus.
My method now combines:
-
Step-by-step desensitization to reduce the body’s fear reflex
-
Trauma awareness and understanding of the subconscious
-
Neuroplasticity-based techniques — teaching the brain to respond differently
-
Mind-body connection tools to rebuild trust, calm, and control
I never physically touch my patients — and that’s exactly why my method works so well online. You remain in control at every step.
Continuing my mission
After closing my physical practice in 2024, I now dedicate my time fully to supporting women worldwide through The Vaginismus Zone — my online space for learning, guidance, and self-paced healing.
Here you’ll find resources, gentle coaching, and step-by-step support designed to help you:
-
Understand your body’s fear reflex
-
Begin retraining it safely at home
-
Regain comfort, confidence, and control over your body
You don’t have to face this alone — and you’re not broken.
Vaginismus is not your fault, and there is a proven way forward.
Warm regards,
Dr. Julia Reeve
